New addition

John and I spent the last few days working around the house. We're trying to get the last few boxes unpacked as we're hosting a potluck here on Saturday night at 6 PM. (If you're reading this, you're invited!)

Today, John worked in the garage on a new addition for the kitchen. Here he is, staining the wood:

And here it is, in place and in use:

Just in time for a party!

Just what exactly is "Butt Rub" . . . in the jar on the shelf above the WD-40 . . . in the photo of John?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Banjoduster, you have some sharp eyes!

Butt Rub - the full name is actually "Bad Byron's Butt Rub Barbeque Seasoning" - is, according to the bottle "the only product you'll need for outstanding steaks, chicken, pork chops, ribs and more". It's a mix of spices including salt, black pepper, granulated onion, garlic, paprika and chipotle powder.

It's a little spicy but not overwhelmingly hot. It's delicious on all manner of grilled meats and also on peanuts.

Want some? You can buy the spice, or a can of the roasted peanuts coated with it, at Try My Nuts (no, I'm not kidding, that's really the name of the store) in Avon. You should try it, because, as the bottle reminds us, "A little Butt Rub makes everything better." :)

Wonder why it's in the garage? John mounted the lid of the empty jar (we go through Butt Rub fast, and actually have a short list of people to whom we send it occasionally) on a piece of wood so he can store screws, nails, etc. in there. Then, when he needs some, he just removes the jar and the lid stays in place. There are several baby food jars serving the same purpose. John told me the other day that he wants about a dozen more, which of course won't be a problem in a few months!
