I had one of the most wonderful, fun, memorable, enjoyable days of my life today. Really. I did so many great things today that I will take multiple blogs to share all of them. (It was a full day.)
The first blog will be a teaser and a puzzle. Can you identify what is in either of these pictures?

Both appear to be pieces of the Lighthouse lens.
Go, Tom! You got it...
Both shots are parts of the Lighthouse lens (which is a fourth-order Fresnel, for those of you who are lighthouse lens buffs) which you can only see when the lens is open. I loved the way the light coming through the prism of the lens sections created rainbows on the copper on either side of the hinge where it opens.
So yes, as you may have gathered, on my fantastic day, one of the wonderful things I did (my favorite one!) was climb the lighthouse. I will post many more photos from that experience soon. :)
I was just going to say a 4th order fresnel lens, and given the coloration of the sunlight in the picture, would have anticipated the timeframe to be around oct 8th or so.
