What is this?
Occasionally, I see things on the beach (and elsewhere on the island) which seem to have been put there intentionally but I have to stop and wonder what they are.
Here's the latest one.
My vote: a monument to beach bonfires. Although I'm not sure how the orange sock (fabric carrot?) fits in to that...

Hi Kati. I have a question that perhaps you can find the answer to. We were on the Island last week and in walking through Springer's Point, noticed several stakes and/or branches with pink or orange cloth attached. I don't remember seeing them before (they looked new) and was wondering what they are for. Any ideas? Thanks! Cathy
Hi Cathy - it sounds like they were survey stakes. I'm not sure why surveying might be happening in Springer's Point, but I'll try to find out and let folks know here on the blog if I do.
I am blessed and lucky to call Ocracoke Island, NC home. Ocracoke is beloved of residents and visitors, and I hope this blog will be a way for folks to keep in touch with what's going on here, both in general and in my life specifically. It's a fix for your Ocracoke jonesing!
